Inversion for Emphasis: When Verbs Lead the Sentence

English में inversion सीखें — negative और adverbial fronting के बाद auxiliary-subject inversion कैसे use करते हैं — rules, examples और practice के साथ।

English Grammar , Writing Skills 5 min read

Normal English sentences subject-verb order follow करते हैं। Inversion इसे flip करता है: auxiliary verb subject से पहले आता है।

Normal: I have never seen such a sight.
Inversion: Never have I seen such a sight.

Inversion कुछ negative या restrictive words के बाद sentence की शुरुआत में होता है। यह emphasis create करता है और formal writing और exams में common है।

Rule box: Negative या restrictive fronting के बाद, auxiliary + subject + main verb use करें। अगर auxiliary न हो, तो do/does/did add करें।

TriggerExample

RarelyRarely does he complain.
SeldomSeldom do we get such chances.
Not onlyNot only does she sing, but she also dances.

Rarely does he arrive on time.
Seldom do we witness such talent.

Inversion पहले clause में होता है (not only के बाद)। दूसरा clause (but also) normal order follow करता है।

Only then did I understand the problem.
Only after the meeting did she explain her plan.
Only when you try do you learn.

Hardly had I arrived when the phone rang.
Scarcely had she left when it started raining.

Inversion clause में past perfect, when clause में simple past।

No sooner had they arrived than the rain started.

Inversion clause में past perfect, than clause में simple past।

Not until midnight did he finish the report.
Not until you see it will you believe it.

Under no circumstances should you share your password.
On no account must you open this door.
