Reflexive Pronouns: When "Myself," "Yourself," and "Himself" Are Correct

English में सबसे आम pronoun errors में से एक:

Reflexive pronouns (myself, yourself, himself, herself, itself, ourselves, yourselves, themselves) regular pronouns के fancy replacements नहीं हैं। इनके specific uses हैं — और इन्हें ग़लत उपयोग करना poor grammar का सबूत है।
Rule box: Reflexive pronouns उपयोग करें (1) जब subject और object एक हों, (2) emphasis के लिए (intensive use), या (3) fixed expressions में। I, me, he, she आदि के substitute के रूप में कभी मत उपयोग करें।

Reflexive pronoun उपयोग करें जब subject और object एक ही व्यक्ति या चीज़ को refer करें।
I hurt myself. (I = myself)
She blamed herself for the mistake. (she = herself)
He taught himself to play guitar. (he = himself)
They enjoyed themselves at the party. (they = themselves)
Reflexive pronoun subject के बाद (या clause के अंत में) emphasis जोड़ने के लिए उपयोग हो सकता है।
I myself saw the accident. (emphasis: मैंने खुद)
She herself completed the entire project. (emphasis: उसने, किसी और ने नहीं)
The president himself attended the meeting.

Error 1: I/me के बजाय myself उपयोग करना

Error 2: Reflexive ज़रूरत होने पर regular pronoun उपयोग करना
❌ I hurt me.
✅ I hurt myself.
❌ She looked at her in the mirror. (ambiguous)
✅ She looked at herself in the mirror.
- क्या subject object के बराबर है? → Reflexive उपयोग करें।
- क्या आप emphasis जोड़ रहे हैं? → Subject के बाद reflexive उपयोग करें।
- क्या यह fixed expression है? → Reflexive form उपयोग करें।
- क्या आप formal लगना चाहते हैं? → Me/I के बजाय myself मत उपयोग करें। यह बेहतर नहीं, ग़लत लगता है।
- क्या आप reflexive को हटा सकते हैं बिना core meaning बदले? → यह emphatic है, essential नहीं।

Myself कभी sentence का subject नहीं हो सकता।
❌ Send it to myself.
✅ Send it to me.
Prepositions के बाद me उपयोग करें जब तक subject I न हो।
✅ I myself saw it. (subject के बाद)
✅ I saw it myself. (verb के बाद — भी मान्य)
❌ Myself, I saw it. (ग़लत position)

- me — कोई reflexive antecedent नहीं।
- herself — emphasis।
- I — subject pronoun।
- I am responsible for this. — myself subject नहीं हो सकता।
- Please send the email to me. — कोई reflexive antecedent नहीं।
- I cut myself while cooking. — subject = object।
- themselves — subject = object।
- himself — emphasis।
- Between you and me, this is a bad idea. — preposition के बाद object pronoun।
- himself — subject = object।
Rule: Reflexive pronouns उपयोग करें जब subject = object, emphasis के लिए, या fixed expressions में। I या me के substitute के रूप में myself कभी मत उपयोग करें — यह ज़्यादा formal नहीं, ग़लत है।
Memory trick: “Myself reflect करता है। यह subject की तरह bounce करता है। अगर bounce करने के लिए कोई subject नहीं है, तो उपयोग मत करें।”
