"Should" vs "Must": Advice, Duty, and Strong Necessity

Should और must का अंतर advice, obligation, confident deduction, common mistakes, exam traps और practice questions के साथ समझें।

Confusing Words , Exam Grammar 5 min read

ये दोनों sentences grammatical हैं, लेकिन meaning की strength अलग है:

You should wear a helmet.

You must wear a helmet.

पहला sentence advice या recommendation देता है। दूसरा strong necessity, rule, duty या obligation बताता है। इसलिए “should” और “must” दोनों modal verbs होने के बावजूद बहुत अलग meaning बनाते हैं। Exams, official instructions और writing में यह difference खास important है।

  • Should = advice, recommendation, expectation, या moral suggestion.
  • Must = strong necessity, obligation, rule, duty, या confident deduction.

Rule box: Should weaker advice है। Must stronger necessity है।

Compare करें:

You should try this restaurant.
You must wear a helmet by law.

Restaurant try करना suggestion है। Helmet पहनना law के कारण obligation है।

“Should” और “must” modal verbs हैं। इनके साथ he/she/it में -s नहीं लगता, और इनके बाद main verb का base form आता है।

PatternExample
subject + should/must + base verbShe should rest. / She must leave now.
should/must + subject + base verbShould we wait? / Must I sign here?
subject + should/must + not + base verbYou should not ignore this. / You must not enter.
