Subject-Verb Agreement with "One of": The Most Common Exam Trap
One of के साथ subject-verb agreement समझें: one of my friends, one of the students, one of those people who, common mistakes और practice examples के साथ।
Subject-verb agreement में one of सबसे common exam traps में से एक है। Sentence छोटा लगता है, लेकिन गलती बहुत आसानी से हो जाती है।
गलत: One of my friend is here.
सही: One of my friends is here.
फिर दूसरा trap आता है:
गलत: One of the students are absent.
सही: One of the students is absent.
Confusion इसलिए होती है क्योंकि sentence में friends, students, books जैसे plural nouns दिखाई देते हैं। Student को लगता है कि verb भी plural होना चाहिए। लेकिन grammar में main subject friends या students नहीं है। Main subject one है।
यही इस rule की key है: of के बाद noun usually plural होगा, लेकिन main verb singular होगा, क्योंकि बात सिर्फ एक selected person या thing की हो रही है।

One of का meaning है: किसी बड़े group में से एक member।
One of my friends = मेरे friends के group में से एक friend
One of the books = books के group में से एक book
One of the reasons = कई reasons में से एक reason
इस structure में दो parts होते हैं:
- one — selected single person या thing
- of + plural noun/pronoun — वह बड़ा group जिसमें से one चुना गया है
Rule box: जब one of phrase subject हो, तो pattern होता है: one of + plural noun/pronoun + singular verb.
Basic examples:
One of my friends is here.
One of the students has called.
One of these answers is correct.
Of के बाद noun plural होता है क्योंकि आप एक item को कई items में से चुनते हैं। आप one को one से नहीं चुनते।
गलत: one of my friend
सही: one of my friends
लेकिन verb singular होता है क्योंकि sentence एक selected member के बारे में है।
गलत: One of my friends are here.
सही: One of my friends is here.
Compare करें:
My friends are here.
One of my friends is here.
पहले sentence का subject my friends है, इसलिए plural verb are है। दूसरे sentence का complete subject one of my friends है, इसलिए singular verb is है।

Most common exam pattern:
One of + the/my/these/those + plural noun + singular verb
Examples:
One of the teachers is on leave.
One of my cousins has moved to Pune.
One of these ideas seems practical.
One of those mistakes was serious.
कभी-कभी one of phrase sentence का main subject नहीं होता। वह linking verb के बाद complement position में आता है:
He is one of my closest friends.
This was one of the reasons for the delay.
Grammar is one of the areas students ignore.
यहाँ verb is/was before one of अपने actual subject से agree करता है: he, this, grammar.
Compare करें:
One of the reasons is clear.
This is one of the reasons.
पहले sentence में one of the reasons subject है। दूसरे sentence में this subject है।
Pronouns के साथ भी same rule apply होता है:
One of them is responsible.
One of us has made a mistake.
One of you needs to explain this.
Them, us, और you group को refer कर सकते हैं, लेकिन one of them/us/you का meaning one selected person है। इसलिए verb singular होगा।
अब सबसे important advanced trap:
He is one of those people who work hard.
यहाँ work क्यों है, works क्यों नहीं?
क्योंकि relative pronoun who यहाँ people को refer करता है, one को नहीं। Meaning है:
वह उन लोगों के group में से एक है जो मेहनत करते हैं।
इसलिए relative clause में plural verb आता है:
सही: She is one of those students who ask good questions.
सही: This is one of the books that explain the topic well.
सही: He is one of the players who train every morning.
लेकिन अगर sentence में the only one of हो, तो focus बदल जाता है:
He is the only one of those people who works on Sundays.
यहाँ बात specifically only one person की है, इसलिए works possible है। यह exam में बहुत common trap है।
जब भी sentence में one of दिखे, यह method use करें:
- पूरा one of phrase identify करें.
- Of के बाद noun check करें. वह usually plural होना चाहिए.
- देखें कि one of phrase main verb का subject है या नहीं.
- अगर हाँ, main verb singular रखें: is, was, has, does, seems, needs.
- अगर plural noun के बाद who/that/which clause है, देखें relative pronoun किस noun को refer कर रहा है.
- Sentence को meaning के हिसाब से दोबारा पढ़ें.
One of my friend/friends is here.
Meaning है group में से one person. इसलिए group noun plural होगा:
One of my friends is here.
One of the students is/are absent.
Complete subject one of the students है। Head idea one है। Correct:
One of the students is absent.
He is one of those people who work/works hard.
Who plural noun people को refer करता है। Correct:
He is one of those people who work hard.

Main verb one से agree करता है, students से नहीं। -
One of them has called.
Them plural है, लेकिन one of them singular है। -
One of these answers is correct.
कई answers में से सिर्फ एक answer correct है। -
One of the windows was broken.
Sentence one window के बारे में है। -
One of my cousins lives in Delhi.
Lives use होगा, live नहीं, क्योंकि subject singular है। -
He is one of those people who work hard.
Who plural people को refer करता है। -
She is one of the students who have completed the project.
Students ने project complete किया है; she उनमें से एक है। -
This is one of the reasons that make the rule difficult.
That plural reasons को refer करता है। -
He is the only one of the players who has scored in every match.
The only one focus को one individual पर shift करता है।
गलत: One of my friend is here.
सही: One of my friends is here.
One of के बाद group noun normally plural होता है:
one of the boys
one of the questions
one of my relatives
one of these problems
आप एक member को group में से select कर रहे हैं, इसलिए group में more than one member होना चाहिए।
गलत: One of the students are absent.
सही: One of the students is absent.
Nearest noun students reader को confuse करता है। Verb nearest noun से नहीं, real subject से agree करता है। One of the students में head one है।

गलत: One of them have called.
सही: One of them has called.
Learners अक्सर them देखकर have choose कर लेते हैं। लेकिन complete subject one of them है, इसलिए has correct है।
More examples:
One of us is wrong.
One of you has the key.
One of them does not understand the rule.
गलत: He is one of those people who works hard.
सही: He is one of those people who work hard.
इस sentence में who plural noun people को refer करता है। Relative clause पूरे group को describe कर रहा है। वह person उस group का one member है।
लेकिन compare करें:
He is the only one of those people who works hard.
The only one आने पर relative clause single person को refer कर सकता है। इसलिए works possible है।
सही: This is one of the best books I have read.
सही: She is one of the most intelligent students who have joined this year.
Superlative के बाद भी group noun plural रहेगा: books, students, players, ideas.

सही: one of the best books
Informal speech में लोग कभी-कभी nearest plural noun के कारण agreement mistake कर देते हैं:
One of my friends are coming.
यह सुनने को मिल सकता है, लेकिन standard written English और exams में incorrect है। Correct form:
One of my friends is coming.

- She is one of those teachers who explain/explains grammar clearly.

One of rule simple है, लेकिन surrounding words sentence को confusing बना देते हैं।
Rule box: Use one of + plural noun/pronoun + singular main verb.
