Common Error Spotting Tricks for Pronouns
Pronouns की error spotting सीखें: case, agreement, clear reference, reflexive pronouns, examples, common mistakes और practice.
Pronoun mistakes अक्सर बच जाते हैं क्योंकि sentence conversation में familiar लगता है।
Wrong: Me and Rahul went to the market.
Right: Rahul and I went to the market.
Meaning clear है, लेकिन grammar नहीं। Pronoun subject का part है, इसलिए subject form I चाहिए, object form me नहीं।
Pronoun error spotting सिर्फ he, she, they, और it जैसे words पहचानने का test नहीं है। यह case, agreement, reference और reflexive pronouns test करता है। अगर pronoun अपने noun से match नहीं करता, या reader को clear नहीं है कि वह किसको refer कर रहा है, sentence weak या wrong हो जाता है।
Related pronoun usage के लिए Who vs Whom और Subject-Verb Agreement with Either Or revise करें।
Pronoun किसी noun को replace करता है या उसकी ओर point करता है। जिस noun को pronoun refer करता है, उसे antecedent कहते हैं।
Rule box: Pronoun को अपने noun से number, gender और person में match करना चाहिए, और उसका reference clear होना चाहिए।
Pronoun errors usually चार areas से आते हैं:
- Case — subject form या object form?
- I went; between you and me
- Agreement — singular या plural?
- each student and his or her/their book
- Reference — pronoun exactly किसको refer कर रहा है?
- Ravi told Aman that he was late. कौन late था?
- Reflexive misuse — myself, yourself, himself, etc.
- I am Keshav, not Myself Keshav.
| Function | Pronouns | Example |
|---|---|---|
| Subject | I, we, he, she, they, who | She called me. |
| Object | me, us, him, her, them, whom | Riya called me. |
| Possessive determiner | my, our, his, her, their | This is my bag. |
| Possessive pronoun | mine, ours, his, hers, theirs | This bag is mine. |
Quick test: दूसरे noun को हटाकर देखें।
Rahul and I went. → I went.
The teacher praised Rahul and me. → The teacher praised me.
Preposition के बाद object form use करें।
| Preposition Phrase | Correct Form |
|---|---|
| between you and ___ | between you and me |
| for Rahul and ___ | for Rahul and me |
| with Riya and ___ | with Riya and her |
| to my brother and ___ | to my brother and me |
इसीलिए standard English में between you and I wrong है।
Pronoun अपने noun से agree करना चाहिए।
| Antecedent | Pronoun Pattern |
|---|---|
| The boy | he / his / him |
| The girl | she / her |
| The students | they / their / them |
| Each student | his or her / their, depending style |
| The company | it / its |
Modern English में gender unknown या irrelevant हो तो singular they common है।
Every student must bring their book.
Every student must bring his or her book.
दोनों expected style के हिसाब से acceptable हो सकते हैं। Traditional exams his or her या rewritten plural sentence prefer कर सकते हैं: All students must bring their books.
Reflexive pronouns -self या -selves पर end होते हैं: myself, yourself, himself, herself, itself, ourselves, yourselves, themselves.
जब subject और object same person या thing हों, तब इन्हें use करें।
I hurt myself.
She prepared herself for the test.
सिर्फ polite या formal लगने के लिए reflexive pronoun use न करें।
Wrong: Myself Keshav.
Right: I am Keshav.
यह method use करें:
- Pronoun find करें।
- उसका noun/antecedent find करें। वह किसको refer कर रहा है?
- Case check करें। Pronoun subject, object, possessive या preposition के बाद है?
- Agreement check करें। Singular/plural, gender और person.
- Clarity check करें। Reader clearly समझ सकता है कि pronoun किसके लिए है?
- Reflexive use check करें। क्या myself/himself/themselves सच में needed है?
Me and Rahul went to the market.
Pronoun subject का part है। Subject form I use करें, और standard polite order में दूसरे person को पहले रखें।
Rahul and I went to the market.
This is between you and I.
Between preposition है। Preposition के बाद object form आता है।
This is between you and me.
Myself Keshav.
यहाँ Myself subject introduction के रूप में use नहीं हो सकता।
I am Keshav.
- Rahul and I went to the library.
- The teacher called Rahul and me.
- This secret is between you and me.
- I am Keshav, not Myself Keshav.
- Every student must bring his or her book.
- Modern usage में every student must bring their book भी common है।
- All students must bring their books.
- Riya and she are cousins.
- The prize was given to Riya and her.
- The dog wagged its tail.
Main idea यह है कि impressive लगने वाला pronoun न चुनें; grammatical role के हिसाब से pronoun चुनें।
Wrong: Me and my friend attended the seminar.
Right: My friend and I attended the seminar.
दूसरे noun को हटाकर test करें:
Me attended the seminar. ❌
I attended the seminar. ✅
Wrong: The principal congratulated Rahul and I.
Right: The principal congratulated Rahul and me.
फिर वही test:
The principal congratulated I. ❌
The principal congratulated me. ✅
Wrong: There is no problem between you and I.
Right: There is no problem between you and me.
Between, for, with, to, from, और of जैसे prepositions usually object pronouns लेते हैं।
Everyone, each, either, और neither formal grammar में अक्सर singular माने जाते हैं।
Each of the boys has brought his book.
Each student must bring his or her book.
Each student must bring their book. (modern English में common)
Exams में expected style carefully पढ़ें। Safe rewrite अक्सर plural होता है:
All students must bring their books.
Unclear: Ravi told Aman that he was wrong.
Clear: Ravi told Aman, “You are wrong.”
Clear: Ravi admitted that he was wrong.
Pronoun reader को guess करने पर मजबूर नहीं करना चाहिए।
Wrong: Please give the file to myself.
Right: Please give the file to me.
Wrong: Myself will attend the meeting.
Right: I will attend the meeting.
Reflexive pronouns तभी use करें जब उनका real grammatical job हो।
